Hi Friends!

March was a wild month! So wild that I never hit SEND on this news update!
I got back to working on FORKLIFT FLOWERPOT. I’ve been refining the first island of the game, adding more art, more polish, and more content to make it really come to life. I spent a few days making that glorious key artwork that you see above! I’m looking forward to sharing the demo at THREE local events in North Carolina this month. Most notably, I went to East Coast Game Conference in Raleigh on April 18th-20th.
I went to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco again this year as a Conference Associate! I loved working at the conference, scanning badges, and building marker towers.
Speaking of marker towers, the 4-hour work shift I did at the Game Design Community Space was wonderful! Initially, it seemed like it might be pretty rough standing there for 4 hours watching a set of tables that people were having lunch and doing Zoom calls from. Then, I decided to reclaim the Space as a “creative space” as it was intended. I started building marker towers on tables that were unoccupied, as if to declare: THIS IS A SPACE FOR PLAY. It worked. People came to the tables, took a marker and wrote their game ideas on the whiteboard. Some even joined me in the tower building!
Inevitably the marker towers would come down, and I was almost relieved when they did - it gave me the opportunity to invite more folks into the space to help build more towers. I feel as if this was a good lesson in looking for fun in unexpected places and learning to bounce back from setbacks.
@toomuchtomatoReplying to @sketchthehunter This is how I make weird claymation models in my game FORKLIFT FLOWERPOT! It's all done inside of Unity! #gamedev #indiegame #steam #gameart

I hit my monthly Steam wishlist target for the first time EVER due to some clever TikToks like the one above! The FORKLIFT FLOWERPOT CERTIFIED badge might have something to do with that too. I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of sharing my work online and I’m having a great time with it!
Until next time,
Michael
