Maintaining Sanity as Launch Approaches

10 days ago, the game looked like this:

This is a nasty bug that happened in a unique situation when using a SHARP build against the final boss. The boss’s limbs would get removed and not behave correctly because of the unique structure of that encounter.

I was freaking out: I still needed to make more promotional videos, tidy up audio, and 50-100 other “Should Do” priority items on my todo list.

Then, I realized that it was all ok.

I can sit down and fix bugs with a sense of calm. The game is almost out! People have been playing the beta and enjoying it! There are going to be bugs to fix and things to do, but overall I’d like to feel proud that I’ve brought the game across the finish line. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone enjoy the game.

Games are not made in a Vacuum

I’d really like to give my thanks to my local community of fellow game developers in North Carolina. I would not be able to make TORSO TENNIS if it weren’t for the support of all these people. From the Global Game Jam version of the game, to the broken Playtest builds, to the version that exists today - thanks for the support over these last 20 months - Thank you TIAC!

If you are reading this and feel alone in your game development or creative endeavors, I encourage you to seek out real human connections with other people who have similar aspirations. It is immensely grounding to have a support network like this.

And thank YOU so much for reading the newsletter and following the journey! I can’t wait to share what’s next with you.
